Previous Students Work Analysis - (RKelly)

Ignition by RKelly

The camera angles include establishing shot, point of view shot, mid shots, extreme close up, long shots, and a motion shot. The wide range of shots work well and make the video feel like it is constantly moving forward. The point of view shot works well and gives the video a twist.

The editing is very poor as the transitions take at least two seconds to go to the next shot, this slows the video’s pace down and makes it feel very low skill. They also try to darken a shot to make it seem like night time, but this doesn’t work and the editing is very obvious. The rest of the editing works well as it has blur to focusing and foreground focusing.

The lighting is mainly natural when they are outside apart from one scene where they are in a pub and the lighting is artificial.

The props used are an alarm clock, the actors phones, lip gloss, mascara, shoes, money, and drinks.
The colour is all natural colours.
There is very little makeup apart from one shot where mascara is being applied.
The costume is casual clothing apart from the scene where they are in the pub and they are wearing going out clothes.
The actors are almost always in the centre of the shot apart from one shot where they are to the side.

The setting is mainly in a high street apart from a few scenes where they are in a pub, and then in a house. They could have had another few places to go, this would have added to the video.

Facial expression
Smiling
Neutral

The story is mainly that the two actors are walking down a high street, they then are getting ready to go out, when they get to the pub they meet and go to his house, it goes back to them walking down the high street but together this time. It is a very simple story and does not fit the song at all.

Does it go with the song
It does not go with the song at all as their version is about romance and being young, however the actual song is about having sex, so the video is far too romanticised for the song chosen.

Strengths:
They had lots of camera angles
Had lots of props and thought about the mise en scene very well.
It was clear that a lot of thought and planning went into the video.

Weaknesses:
Transitions were too long
Too many transitions
Too many blank screens
Poor editing – lighting
Didn’t show the females face at all through the whole video compared to the male.
Male actor was seen looking at the camera
Story didn’t match the song at all
Sex scene was awkward – like what were they even doing
Night time when they were at pub, suddenly day time when they go to the house – tried to edit over that by darkening the shot but it didn’t work
